BNP amends its party constitution, even the post of senior vice-chairman will have to be elected

Dhaka, Feb 11: BNP has amended some in its party charters as its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said that there will be direct election to elect the post of party’s senior vice-chairman like chairperson.

“BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has given necessary approval to amend the party’s constitution putting the post of senior vice-chairman,” he said.

The spokesperson for the party came up with the announcement at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

Previously only the chairperson post could be elected. “Now the constitution will be amended so that the committee can also elect the party’s senior vice-chairman,” he added.

Mirza Fakhrul also said a three-member election commission headed by the party’s standing committee member Jamir Uddin Sircar has been formed to make the election of this two posts a success.

The party’s standing committee, policymaking body, took the decision in a meeting at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office on Wednesday night.

At least 11 subcommittees have been formed to the make the 6th national council of the party successful, he added.

About venue of the council, he said, “We are expecting to stage our national council either at Engineers’ Institute, Suhrawardy Udyan or at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.”
