Dhaka, Nov 30: Professor Sadeka Halim has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Jagannath University (JnU).
She is the first female vice-chancellor of the university since its journey in 2005.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the education ministry on Thursday issued a circular in this regard.
Currently, Sadeka Halim is working as a professor and the chair of the sociology department of Dhaka University where she was the former dean of the social sciences faculty.
The circular said that following the approval from president and chancellor Mohammed Shahabuddin, Sadeka Halim has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Jagannath University as per the section 10 (1) of the Jagannath University Act 2005.
It also said that the duration of her appointment would be four years and she would stay at the university campus always as the chief executive officer of the university.
She is replacing the recently deceased Jagannath University vice-chancellor professor Md Imdadul Hoque who died on November 11 after suffering from cancer.
Professor Sadeka Halim had served as the former first female information commissioner of the Information Commission.
After completing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology from Dhaka University, she had done another master’s degree and had a PhD from McGill University in Canada.
She is also a member of the ruling Awami League’s education and human resources sub-committee and a member of the publicity and publication sub-committee under the AL election steering committee.
