Dhaka, Nov 20: Around 7.5 lakh members of different law enforcement agencies will be on duty during the 12th national elections, according to the Election Commission (EC).
The EC held a meeting with the representatives of the Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard on Monday.
After the meeting, Election Commission (EC) Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath told reporters that 5.16 lakh members of the Ansar, 1.82 lakh members of the police and RAB, 2,355 Coast Guard officials and 46, 876 members of the BGB will be deployed.
He also said the possible budget for the arrangement was discussed in the meeting.
“They [law enforcement agencies] presented a demand in line with the manpower. But it has not been finalised. The amount will be paid according to the number of members appointed as per the approved rate of the Ministry of Finance,” he added.
“They sought for some advance allocation of the budget. We will discuss that based on how much we can allocate.”
The 12th parliamentary elections are slated for 7 January. The EC announced the polls schedule earlier on 15 November.
