Miscreants set fire to Jamuna intercity train in Jamalpur

Jamalpur, Nov 19: Miscreants set fire to Jamuna intercity train at Sarishabari railway station in the district a few hours ahead of 48-hours hartal starting on Sunday morning enforced by BNP, Jamaat and like minded parties.

Railway sources said the fire gutted two bogies completely and another partially.

Miscreants set the train on fire as it set out for Tarakandi station from Sarishabari railway station around 1:10 am on Sunday, they said.

Passengers first spotted the flame as the train was crossing the home signal area and screamed, they added.

Earlier, the intercity train reached the Sarishabari railway station at 01:07 am from Dhaka.

Fire service personnel from Sarishabari Upazila rushed to the spot and put out the fire after two hours of frantic efforts.

Officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Railway Station Gulzar Hossain said no one was hurt in the fire.

Station Master of Jamalpur Railway Station Sheikh Uzzal Mahmud said the Jamuna intercity train left for Dhaka from Jamalpur Station at 7:35 am this morning with the burned coaches.
