24 BUET students among 32 arrested in Sunamganj get bail

Sunamganj, Aug 02: A judicial magistrate court in Sunamganj on Wednesday granted bail for 32 people, including 24 students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, arrested at Tanguar haor in Sunamganj on Tuesday.

Judicial magistrate Mohammad Farhan Sadique granted their plea seeking bail.

The 32 people are among 34 arrested at a location under Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj for their alleged involvement in ‘planning sabotage’ against the government.

Sunamganj district bar association president Md Taiebur Rahman confirmed the news.

He said that the hearing on the bail plea of the remaining two were yet to be held as they were aged under 18 and the pil pleas were sent to a juvenile court for hearing.

The BUET students who got bail are The arrested BUET students are Afif Anwar, 24, Bakhtiar Nafis, 21, Md Shaikh Sadiq, 21, Ismail Ibn Azad, 21, Sabbir Ahmmad, 21, Tazimur Rafi, 20, Md Saad Adnan Opi, 22, Md Shamim Al Razi, 20, Md Abdullah Al Mukith, 23, Md Zayem Sarker, 21, Haisam Bin Mahbub, 25, Mahmudul Hasan, 22, Khalid Ammar, 21, Md Fahadul, 22, Tanvir Arafat fahim, 21, ATM Abrar Muhtadi, 21, Md Faysal Habib, 20, Ali Ammar Mauaz, 25, Md Rashed Rayhan, 23, Shakib Shahriar, 23, Fayez Us Soyaib, 24, Abdur Rafi, 25, Mayeen Uddin, 23, and Raihan Ahmed Sajid, 19.

The other students who got bail are Abdul Bari, 24, of Chapainababganj, Md Baqi Billah, 28, of Khulna, Mahdi Hasan, 23, of Comilla, TM Tanvir Hossain, 26, of Sirajganj, Asraf Ali, 25, of Chattogram, Mahmud Hasan, 25, of Kustia, Md Ehsanul Haque, 24, of Dhaka and Abdullah Miah, 18, of Jatrabari in Dhaka.

The 34 youths were arrested on Monday for their alleged involvement in ‘planning sabotage’ against the government. Later, the police filed a case against them under Anti-Terrorism Act.

The police said that all of the arrested ones were members of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student front of Jamaat-e-Islami.
