RAB chief gets one year extension

Dhaka, May 23: The government on Tuesday extended M Khurshid Hossain’s tenure as director general of Rapid Action Battalion for one year, on a contract basis.

A gazette notification by the public administration ministry of Bangladesh stated that his service would be extended for one year — from June 5, 2023 and the date of joining— postponing his retirement leave and benefits.

The appointment was made through a public administration ministry circular, signed by its deputy secretary Rafiqul Islam.

According to the circular, Khurshid’s post-retirement leave and related benefits have been suspended as per Section 49 of the Public Service Act-2018 and he has been appointed as RAB director general for a period of one year.

The chiefs of both RAB and Bangladesh Police are now appointed on a contract basis.

Additional inspector general of police Khurshid Hossain was appointed as the RAB chief on September 22, 2022 and the order came into effect on September 30.

Khurshid succeed current inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun

On January 9, the government extended the tenure of Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun as IGP for one and a half years under contract.
