Dhaka, May 23: The government on Tuesday extended M Khurshid Hossain’s tenure as director general of Rapid Action Battalion for one year, on a contract basis.
A gazette notification by the public administration ministry of Bangladesh stated that his service would be extended for one year — from June 5, 2023 and the date of joining— postponing his retirement leave and benefits.
The appointment was made through a public administration ministry circular, signed by its deputy secretary Rafiqul Islam.
According to the circular, Khurshid’s post-retirement leave and related benefits have been suspended as per Section 49 of the Public Service Act-2018 and he has been appointed as RAB director general for a period of one year.
The chiefs of both RAB and Bangladesh Police are now appointed on a contract basis.
Additional inspector general of police Khurshid Hossain was appointed as the RAB chief on September 22, 2022 and the order came into effect on September 30.
