Dhaka, May 17: Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six opposition political parties in Bangladesh, on Wednesday announced a six-day programme including road march to press its 14-point demand which included resignation of the Awami League government.
The coordinator of the combine and also general secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh Saiful Huq at a press conference at party’s Samhati auditorium at its central office at Segunbagicha announced the simultaneous programmes with the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
According to the programmes, the Dhaka city north of the combine will hold a march on May 23 from the National Press Club to Bahadur Shah Park in old Dhaka.
The march will start at 10:30am in front of the National Press Club.
The Dhaka city north of the combine will hold a march on May 28, starting from Malibagh Rail Gate at 10:30am and ended at Badda.
Moreover, it will hold a Dhaka-Dinajpur road march from June 4 to June 7.
While announcing the programme, Saiful Huq said, ‘The Awami League government has failed to control price hikes of the essential commodities and the government are engulfed in corruption. We want the government to step down immediately.’
The BNP has announced programmes for May 13, which include holding countrywide rallies and processions.
Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, ‘A proposal, by prime minister Sheikh Hasina, to form an election time government is nothing but to misguide the people and we want the Awami League government to step down before next general election.’
Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zoanyed Saki said that they would announce a series of mass movement programmes to compel the government to step down from the power.
Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaium, Jatiya Samajtatnrik Dal, JSD general secretary Shahhid Uddin Mahmod Shapon, Bhashani Onusari Parishad member secretary Habibur Rahman Reezu and others attended the press conference.
