Six killed in Bandarban as two trucks collide

Bandarban, Mar 20: Six people, including five women, were killed and at least nine others sustained injuries when a truck fell into a ditch after being hit by another truck near Kamla Bazar in Ruma upazila of Bandarban district on Monday.

Five of the deceased were identified as – two daughters of Hamnoy Karbari (village headman) of Ruma Remakri-Prangsha UP’s Theikang village Lim Moy Bom (37) and Varkim Bom (42), Jing Hom Bom (50), Songkhuv Bom’s daughter Lal Siam Bom (16) and Nemkhuv Bom’s daughter Noon Thar Moy Bom (37).

However, the identity of the driver, who also died in the accident, was not found.

Ruma police station officer-in-charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain confirmed the matter.

On information, police and local people rushed to the spot, he added.

Locals said a truck carrying passengers was heading towards Ruma upazila sadar from Boga Lake while another was coming from the opposite direction, from Ruma to Boga Lake.

Later, the two trucks collided head-on at Komlabazar Khara area.

The women were going to Romacri union on a truck to collect money under Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) programme, they said.

However, the rescue operation was disrupted due to rains in the area.
