JU asks ‘non-students’ to leave halls by seven days

JU correspondent, Mar 08: The Jahangirnagar University authorities on Tuesday asked those whose studentships had already expired to leave halls within the next seven days.

A JU notification, signed by its registrar Rahima Kaneez, made the announcement on the day.

‘Students, who have already completed their master’s examinations, are being asked to leave their respective halls by the time frame’, the notification said.

‘Legal action will be taken if any student doesn’t obey the order’, the notification added.

On March 5, JU vice-chancellor Nurul Alam assured a group of demonstrators of bringing the existing ganoroom culture at residential halls of the university to an end.

Contacted, JU VC Nurul Alam said, ‘We are working to abolish the ganoroom culture at the university.’

‘No students will be allowed to stay at residential halls after completion of their studies’, the VC added.

On March 5, a group of students locked the university’s new administrative building demanding proper accommodation and restoration of administrative control to residential halls that were allegedly robbed by the Bangladesh Chhatra League activists.
