BNP pollutes politics: Quader

Dhaka, Mar 07: Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said that since the Bangladesh Nationalist Party was one kind of polypus in the politics in the country, it is polluting politics here.

He made the remarks while speaking at a discussion, organised by the ruling party, at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium in Dhaka, marking the historic March 7.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the BNP is carrying out arson terrorism in the country. ‘It seems that BNP is one kind of polypus in the politics of Bangladesh. Today, this poisonous party has been stigmatising and polluting polities and staining blood here,’ he added.

‘We must criticise ourselves and minimise our lacking. Our enemies are not sitting idles at home. They got message that their defeat is certain because of the popularity of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina if elections is held,’ the AL general secretary said.

On the day of the historic 7 March, he said, all should take oath to protect Bangladesh from the clutch of all anti-liberation forces and militancy by making all pro-liberation forces united under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said that there was no alternative to unity and no scope for misunderstanding today.

Stating that there is no reason to the pro-liberation forces to be afraid of anything, Quader said that the ruling Awami League did not walk alone and along with its allies, the party would move forward.

AL presidium member Abdur Razzaque said that the historic March 7 speech of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the voice of all oppressed people of the world. ‘This speech is our asset and those who tried to stop playing the speech were the associates of Pakistanis,’ he added.

AL presidium member Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said that resistance must be made against those who want to go to power through arson terrorism.

AL presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak said that the country’s people were made powerless by outing the AL government after killing Sheikh Mujib on August 15 in 1975.

He said that once killer Ziaur Rahman seized the state power, Bangladesh got paralyzed, and while General HM Ershad captured power, Bangladesh was in peril.

AL presidium member engineer Mosharraf Hossain chaired the meeting while AL presidium members Matia Chowdhury, Abdur Rahman, Qamrul Islam and Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, joint general secretaries Hasan Mahmud (also information and broadcasting minister), Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim were present, among others, on the occasion.
