Hasina urges people to vote for AL to build ‘Smart Bangladesh’

Dhaka, Jan 29: Prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina on Sunday called upon the countrymen to vote the party to build a developed, prosperous and ‘Smart Bangladesh’ by 2041.

She said that her party worked with the people for their betterment and never fled.

‘They (BNP leaders) who are saying that the Awami League will not get the chance of fleeing, I want to clear them one thing that the Awami League never flees, but their (BNP) leaders flee,’ she said.

She said this while addressing as the chief guest a grand rally that turned into a human sea with participation of tens of thousands of people organised by Rajshahi city and district units of the AL at the historic Madrasha ground here.

At the rally, the prime minister also inaugurated 26 projects including seven of the Rajshahi City Corporation, worth over Tk1,333 crore and laid foundation stones of six other projects involving over Tk375.

The prime minister said that the BNP-Jamaat clique were saying many things and giving an ultimatum to her party saying that the Awami League would not get the scope to flee.

Referring to her return to the country twice ignoring the red eyes of the then governments in 1981 and 2007, she asked the BNP-Jamaat clique who wants to flee and said the AL never flees and it looks behind.

‘I returned to the country thinking about the people of the country,’ she added.

The AL president said that her party was working with the people for their wellbeing as the organisation was formed at the hands of the Father of the Nation.

‘This organisation (AL) whenever comes to power, the fate of the people is changed.’

AL general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, AL presidium members Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Rajshahi City Corporation mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, senior joint secretary general and information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shariar Alam, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, AL organising secretary SM Kamal, AL central working committee member Nurul Islam Thandu and BCL president Saddam Hossain also spoke.

Rajshahi City Awami League acting president Mohammad Ali Kamal and general secretary Dablu Sarker respectively presided over and moderated the meeting.
