Dhaka, Nov 30: An accused in a case died in Uttara East police station in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased, Hiron Mia, 52, was a businessman and resident of Khilkhet area in the city.
Hiron died at about 4:00pm, about half an-hour after being arrested, said the deceased’s brother Badol Mia.
Police claimed that Hiron suffered a stroke in the police station and died on the way to hospital.
Badol, however, said that his brother was fine before the arrest and that they did not know the reason behind the death immediately after the arrest.
The body was kept at the Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital in Dhaka.
Uttara East Police Station officer-in-charge Johirul Islam said that there was a clash in front of Uttara Rajuk office between two rival groups.
Police were informed about the incident as someone complained to national emergency helpline number ‘999’.
A team rushed there and arrested two people, including Hiron, at about 3:30pm, said the OC.
A group was filing a case against Hiron and others when Hiron fell sick and collapsed in the police station, the OC claimed.
He was immediately rushed to the Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Quoting doctors there, OC Johirul claimed that Hiron suffered stroke and died.
