Newly-elected MPs to be sworn in Jan 3

Dhaka, Jan 01: Newly-elected members of the parliament will be sworn in on January 3. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will administer the oath ceremony at the Jatiya Sangsad.The Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu revealed this while addressing at a programme titled ‘BSRF Sanglap’ organized by Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) in the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Earlier, On December 30, the Awami League-led Grand Alliance clinched a landslide victory with over two thirds majority in the 11th general elections.

Out of the 299 seats where elections were held, the grand alliance won in 288 constituencies, including 259 seats bagged by Awami League.

Eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikyafront won in 7 constituencies.

HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party secured 20 seats with “plough” symbol and independent candidates got three seats.

Voting in Gaibandha-3 constituency was postponed due to death of a candidate and the results of Brahmanbaria-2 seat will be announced after re-election in its three centres.
