Russians hit the anchored Bangladeshi ship Banglar Samriddhi with a missile: 1 dead

Dhaka, Mar 03: The Russian Navy launched a missile attack on the Banglar Samriddhi (Bangladesh flag) ship at the 363 mooring point in the port of Olvia.

A sailor of Bangladeshi-flagged ship MV Banglar Samriddhi was killed on Wednesday as the ship came under missile attack at a Ukrainian port on Wednesday.

The ship that arrived at port Olvia in Ukraine on February 22 became stranded due to Russian invasion of the pro-western country.

Bangladesh ambassador in Poland Sultana Laila Hossain, who has been concurrently responsible for Ukraine, confirmed the death of a seaman without mentioning the name of the deceased.

‘The Bangladesh shipping authorities would be the appropriate authority to announce the name of the deceased,’ she reporters.

A crew member, Omar Faruk Tuhin, told New Age over whatsapp from the stranded ship at the Ukraine’s port that the deceased was Hadisur Rahman, a third engineer of the ship.

He said that MV Banglar Samriddhi, owned by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, came under attack at about 9:25pm (Bangladesh time) on Wednesday.

He said that the crew members managed to douse the fire, originated from the attack, immediately.

However, no officials of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation could be reached for comment despite several attempts.

MV Banglar Samriddhi arrived at port Olvia in Ukraine on February 22 after departing from Eregli in Turkey on February 21, according to an official of BSC.

BSC general manager Mujibur Rahman on February 27 said that the ship was stranded with 29 crew members at the port Olvia as the port authorities suspended movement due to the Russian invasion and did not give clearance.
