Polls process would not be hampered without BNP : Hanif

Kushtia, Feb 13: Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif today said the elections process will not be stopped as BNP is not the only political party in the country.

“BNP is not the only political party in the country. Even if they do not participate in the election, the election process will not stop,” he said.

The AL leader came up with the remarks while inspecting the new building of Kushtia Shilpakala Academy here.

In response to such a question that ‘Is there going to be another questionable election without BNP?’, the joint general secretary of AL said that there are many more political parties here and participating in the elections or not is their own political democratic right.

“The election process will not be stopped even if no party participates in the polls,” he reiterated.

Many political parties have come to power in the last 50 years of independence in the country, he said, adding that but none of them legislated the formation of the Election Commission (EC).

Lashing out BNP leaders, he added that BNP has no moral right to talk about the Election Commission as BNP always follows a double standard policy.

In response to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir ‘s remarks that the EC is not neutral, Hanif said the BNP has no principles and ideals.

They (BNP leaders) always change their remarks as they want to take advantage of these remarks, he said.

Later, Hanif inaugurated a private hospital called Trauma Center at Courtpara in Kushtia town.

Director General of Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky, Member of Parliament for Kushtia-4 Barrister Selim Altaf Gorge, District Awami League President Sadar Uddin Khan, General Secretary Azgar Ali and former Principal of Kushtia Medical College Dr SM Mustanjeed were present on the occasion.
