Dhaka, Feb 13: The search committee constituted by the president will release a list of all names proposed for the posts of chief election commissioner and commissioners.
“No matter how many names are proposed, 400, or even 500, all the names will be published on the website,” Justice Obaidul Hassan, the head of the committee, said at the start of the panel’s third meeting with experts on the nominees for the posts.
Experts at the two previous meetings with the search panel had urged them to publish all proposed names.
The meeting was held at the Supreme Court Judge’s Lounge on Sunday. Eighteen of the experts invited met the five members of the search committee and Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam, who was serving as the secretary to the panel.
“We will try to upload the names on the Cabinet Division website after [Monday] evening,” the secretary said.
Two dozen political parties and some professional organisations have submitted 309 names for the Election Commission, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said on Saturday.
Some of the remaining 15 registered parties say the limited time means they have been unable to submit full resumes for their picks.
Justice Hassan on Sunday said the committee will give them one more day to send their nominations.
Describing the BNP as a “large party”, he said, “We have extended the deadline to [Monday] 5pm for the BNP, the CPB, the BaSaD and others who did not submit names.
“I hope they will give a positive response.”
The BNP was among the parties that did not come to President Md Abdul Hamid’s talks for the formation of the EC.
Its leaders said they will not submit names because they believe the search committee will nominate candidates “as per the government’s wish”.
