The party isolated from people talks to boycott elections: Hasan


Dhaka, Oct 09: Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said that the party that had been isolated from people talks to boycott elections.

“Those who peruse politics depending on the people never skip polls. The party isolated from the people talks to avoid elections,” he told newsmen.

Replying to a comment of BNP leader, Hasan said most political parties severed ties with BNP-led twenty-party alliance. “While they (BNP) are giving statements that they would go for movement along with all parties. But their unity has been shattered,” he added.

Earlier in 2018, he said, BNP talked to boycott elections. “But, they took part in the polls. Those parties talk to boycott elections which have no mandate of the people. BNP has no alternative to take part in the elections, if they want to sustain as a pro-people political party,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

“I hope that BNP would not take suicidal decision like earlier,” he added.

Earlier in the function, the minister said that there is no room for evil deeds in the country which had achieved independence through bloodshed of the people of all religions under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said that the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believed that the religion is for individuals, festivals for all. Bangladesh is now a role model of communal harmony before the globe, he added.

Jyotishwar Bedanta Moth and Mission Principal Abhedananda Brammachari lighted candle with Hindu Religious Welfare Trust Trustee Uttam Kumar Sharma in the chair.

Chattogram University Pro Vice Chancellor Benu Kumar Dey inaugurated the function while Cox’s Bazar Zila Parishad chief executive officer Hillol Biswas, Ranguniya Upazila Parishad chairman Swajan Kumar Talukder, Ranguniya Pouro Mayor Shahjahan Shikder, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Iftekar Younus, Assistant Commissioner (land) Rajib Chowdhury, AL Ranguniya upazila unit general secretary Shamsul Alam Talukder, among others, addressed the function as special guests.

Earlier, the minister virtually addressed a cheque and clothes distribution function organized by Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad of Ranguniya unit at Ranguniya Upazila auditorium.
