Aug 21’s pledge is to eliminate politics of killing: Hasan

Dhaka, Aug 21: Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the pledge on the anniversary of gruesome grenade attacks of August 21 is to eliminate the politics of killing and terrorism forever from the country.

He was addressing, as the chief guest, a discussion at Dr Milon Hall of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) here in memory of those killed in the August 21 grenade attacks and on ensuring health safety for those injured in the grenade attacks.

Dr Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said in 2004, the grenade attacks were carried out to make the AL leaderless under the direct supervision of Tarique Rahman and also under the knowledge of his mother, the then prime minister Khaleda Zia.

The grenade attacks were carried out in continuation of August 15, 1975 carnage as the biggest beneficiary of August 15 carnage Ziaur Rahman’s family was in power at that time, he said.

The minister said Ziaur Rahman had initiated the politics of killing in the country by killing thousands of army personnel to cling to power.

Mentioning that politics of vengeance is the key impediment in the country’s development and progress, he said those who do politics with the mindset of eliminating opponents through killings are political criminals.

BNP and Jamaat do the politics of criminalization, he said.

To establish healthy trend of politics in the true sense of the term, he said, those who do politics of killing, hurl petrol bombs on innocent people and perform politics by making people captive, their politics should be stopped.
