AL will be turned into smarter party: Quader


Dhaka, Dec 10: Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said his party will be turned into smarter, more orderly and disciplined party under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He was addressing the council session of Joypurhat district unit of AL through a videoconferencing from his official residence on parliament premises in Dhaka.

Mentioning that the party’s post-position is not given lease to anyone to misuse the power, Quader said none will be allowed in committing offences and enhancing the sources of illegal income by misusing the party’s posts and positions.

He urged party leaders and workers not to give any room to extortionists, corrupt people and offenders in the party by any means.

Noting that Awami League believes in practice of democracy, the AL general secretary said his party remains ahead of any other political party of the country in respect of practicing democracy inside party.

He said the announcement of the party’s sub-committees began and if anyone has allegation or anything to say about the announced committees, he or she can appeal to the election tribunal at the AL president’s Dhanmondi political office as per the party constitution.

About BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s allegation that the government turned the country into a killing field, Quader said after the independence Bangabandhu wanted to turn the war-ravaged country into a Sonar Bangla but the predecessors of Mirza Fakhrul turned the country into a killing field by carrying out the August 15 massacre in 1975.

On November 3 in 1975, the culprits turned the safe custody of Dhaka Central Jail into a killing field, he added.

The AL general secretary said the conspirators wanted to turn the country into a killing ground for another time by carrying out the gruesome grenade attacks on August 21.

Asked about comments of BNP leaders that the government has political motive over the sculpture issue, he said making such comments meant supporting the extreme communal forces.

BNP has political motive over the sculpture issue, not the government, he added.

Quader said Awami League led all democratic and progressive movements in the country.

The AL contributed to every achievement of the nation including the attainment of independent and sovereign Bangladesh under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said.

Awami League Presidium Member Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretary and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Organizing Secretaries Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan and SM Kamal Hossain and Health and Population Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana addressed the council.

Joypurhat district unit of AL President Advocate Shamsul Alam Dudu chaired the function moderated by general secretary Advocate Solaiman Ali.
