BCB sees ‘conspiracy’ behind strike by cricketers

Sports desk, October 22: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan on Tuesday said some people are conspiring to destroy the image of Bangladesh cricket abroad and instigating the country’s top cricketers to stand against the board. The BCB president came up with the remark in an emergency press conference at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the city.

“We’ve seen what they (cricketers) demanded. We’re shocked because they never came to us with these demands before. Had they come to us we would have accepted all the demands,” Nazmul told the media.

The president said the strike just before the very important series against India delivers a special message.

He slammed the cricketers for talking to media without talking to them (the board) about their demands.

The cricketers have succeeded in tarnishing BCB’s image outside, he added.

The national cricketers went on strike demanding to press home their 11-point demand on Monday.

Their 11-point demand includes immediate resignations of president and general secretary of Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh, reversing the BCB’s decision to abandon the franchise-based model and lifting the salary cap in the Dhaka Premier League.
