566 extremists surrender in Pabna


Pabna, April 09: A total of 566 members of several banned outfits surrendered to police by handing over their firearms in Pabna on Tuesday.They handed over around 68 firearms and 575 locally made weapons in presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at Pabna stadium Tuesday afternoon.

During their surrender, the outlaws expressed their willingness to return to the path of normal life.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal handed over incentive for their self-development at the programme.

Addressing the programme, Abdur Razzak alias Art Babu, a leader of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Lal Pataka) in Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi region, said, “As the government has given a scope, I want to come back to the path of light from darkness.”

Most of the operatives, surrendered, belong to factions of outlawed parties Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Lal Pataka), New Purbo Banglar Communist Party, Nakshal, Purbo Banglar Sarbahara, and north Bengal-based Kadamati.

The parties were active mostly in Pabna, Natore, Sirajganj, Bogura, Naogaon, Joypurhat, Rangpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Jhenidah, Rajbari, Satkhira, Narail, and Tangail districts.
