Dhaka, Mar 23: The High Court (HC) has canceled bail to Ruhul Amin, a former Awami League (AL) leader, in connection with a case filed for raping a woman at Subarnachar in Noakhali on December 30, last year. The HC bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman sat on weekly holiday and passed the order, said Supreme Court Special officer Mohammad Saifur Rahman.
The court also fixed March 25 for next hearing.
Earlier on March 18, the same bench granted bail to Ruhul Amin for one year on the ground that his name was not mentioned in the case filed by the husband of the victim with Charjabbar Police Station on December 31.
According to the victim’s husband, a group of hoodlums stormed their house in the early hours of December 31 and tied up all the family members except his wife.
They took the woman outside the house at gunpoint where they violated her in turns.
After the rape, they also threatened the victim not to disclose the matter to anyone, saying they would kill her if otherwise.
Ruhul Amin was the publicity affairs secretary of Subarnachar AL, but the party expelled him after his alleged involvement in the rape case. He was also a former member of Char Jubilee Union Parishad.
Police arrested five people so far – including prime suspect Sohel, 40, and Ruhul Amin – the alleged instigator of the gang rape.
