Dhaka, Mar 23: Pro-BNP lawyers have gained control of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) by winning 10 posts, including those of president and secretary, out of 14 posts in the SCBA election.BNP leaders advocate Zainul Abedin and barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon have been elected president and secretary of the association, respectively, for 2018-19 term.
The Awami League (AL)-backed lawyers have got 4 posts.
Mohammad Abdur Razzak elected for the post of assistant secretary, Barrister Ashraful Hadi, Shahana and Sheikh Mohammad Mazu Mia elected as members from the AL backed panel.
Zainul Abedin got 2369 votes while his rival pro-AL panel president candidate Yusuf Hossain Humayun secured 2315 votes.
Khokon obtained more than 441 votes from his rival pro-AL panel secretary candidate SK Md Morsed.
Convener of SCBA election conducting committee AY Mashiuzzaman announced the results on Friday morning.
A two-day voting for electing the new leadership of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) ended on Thursday.
Out of total 6,152 voters, some 4,865 lawyers casted the ballots at the SCBA auditorium in Dhaka.
