Dhaka, Mar 16: A writ petition was filed to the High Court (HC) on Wednesday by a Supreme Court (SC) lawyer seeking directives to arrest the resigned Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman over the cyber heist involving about to US$81 million from its account with Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Dr Atiur resigned from the BB governor post on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, members of the law enforcing agencies have detained four Bangladesh Bank (BB) officials for primary interrogation over the cyber heist at the bank.
Police didn’t disclose the names of detainees in the interest of investigation.
However, lawyer Younus Ali Akanda filed the writ to the division concerned on Wednesday noon.
Despite directives of the arrest of Dr. Atiur Rahman, direction of forming a judicial probe committee was sought to inquire into the money heist from the account of BB`s New York Federal Reserve Bank.
“Concerned department can quiz anybody in the interest of investigation. Whoever he is or whatever his or her designation—police can quiz them as per law,” Abdullahel Baki, special police super of CID organized crime, told this correspondent.
