Wife slaughtered at launch: police detains husband including 2 associates

Barisal, August 16: Police arrested husband including two associates after a woman was slaughtered to death in a launch on the Dhaka-Barisal route on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Mina Begum, 25, hailed from Homna upazila of Comilla.

The incident took place in a staff cabin on third floor of Barisal-bound Parabat-10 launch early Tuesday.

Police held three persons including her husband over the incident.

The detainees are—husband Anis Patwari, 18, son of Halim Patwari of Maizar village of Gosairhat upazila of Shariatpur district, his cousin Kalam Patwari, 25, and their associate M Tushar, 20, son of Sayed Hassan of Pakapur village of Noagaon.

Shafiqul Islam, In-charge of Barisal Naval Police Outpost, said Anis Patwari rented a cabin of Barisal-bound Parabat-10 launch with a plan to kill his wife Mina Begum on Monday night. He went out of cabin around 2:00am in the night. Then Kalam and Tusher entered into the cabin.

“Passengers and Ansar members of the launch rushed to the cabin after they had heard of hue and cry from there. They found Mina lying on bed in a pool of blood,” he added.

“Later, passengers held Mina’s husband Anis along with his two associates and handed over them to Ansar members. In the morning, they were handed over to Kotwali Police station,” he said.

Shafiqul Islam said, “Mina introduced with Anis over mobile in last Ramadan and got married. After a few days, Anis came to know his wife as a sex worker. Later, he planned to kill Mina.”
