Water Board engineer held, 61 sued over flood in haors

Dhaka, July 2: Two people, including Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) executive engineer, were held after 61 persons were sued in connection with the flash flood in haor regions that destroyed tonnes of crops earlier in April.

The arrestees were BWDB’s Executive Engineer Afsar Uddin and a contractor Bachchu Mia – held over the graft in embankment of the haor region.

Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) assistant director filed the case on Sunday with Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station.

Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, the anti-graft body’s public relations office, confirmed the matter to media.

On April 15, Afsar Uddin was withdrawn and attached to the WDB head office in Dhaka amid allegations of corruption in the construction and repairing works of the embankment around the haor areas.
