Voting ends, counting now in NCC polls

Narayanganj, December 22: Voting in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) elections ended Thursday afternoon with no untoward situation or any such allegations about balloting.

The counting of votes in all 174 polling centres of the city corporation.

Earlier in the day, the voting in the city corporation began at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm without any break.advocate-sakhawat-hossain-khan

Both the key contenders for the mayoral post the ruling Awami League candidate Selina Hayatt Ivy and the BNP’s nominated Sakhawat Hossain Khan said the voter turnout was relatively low.

According to the media people covering the elections, the people were not seen coming out in large number. Slightly over 50 per cent might be cast, some of them projected.

The city corporation has a total of 479,392 voters — 241,514 men and 237,878 women.

Apart from the mayor’s position, posts of 27 ward councillors and nine women councillors from reserved seats are up for grab in the elections.

Both the main mayoral candidates—Ivy and Sakhawatselina-hayat-ivy—told media that they would accept the poll results.

Earlier in the morning, BNP nominated mayor candidate in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan cast his ballot at Masdair Adarsha Uccha Viddalya Centre under Ward No. 13 in NCC.

Awami League nominated candidate Selina Hayat Ivy has cast her ballot in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election at Shishubagh School Centre in the city at 9:30am.
