UP chairman sent to jail over vandalising idols in Thakurgaon


Thakurgaon, November 5: A Thakurgaon court on Saturday sent a Union Parishad (UP) Chairman to jail over the incident of vandalising idols of two Hindu temples in Nargun union of the district’s sadar upazila.

Thakurgaon Senior Judicial Magistrate Sukanta Saha passed the order after hearing the case.

Earlier in the day, police arrested the Nargun UP chairman Poigam Ali after a case was filed in this connection.

The miscreants earlier swooped on Pokati Durga Temple and nearby Kali Temple in the early hours of Friday.

They set fire to an idol inside the Durga temple and vandalized another idol of a Kali temple.
