Two-day strike called by JnU students underway

Dhaka, August 23: The students of Jagannath University (JnU) on Tuesday morning enforced two-day strike at the university to press home their demand for constructing residential halls on the land of Dhaka’s old central jail, which recently shifted to Keraniganj.

Movement representative Raisul Islam Nayan announced the strike at a press conference held at the campus on Monday noon.

The students took position from the university’s main gate up to Ray Saheb Bazar intersection around 8:30 am.

The students’ demand for residential halls on the land of vacated Dhaka jail came as their accommodation problems took a deepening trend with landlords’ unwillingness to rent out houses to bachelors in the wake of militancy rise around the country.
