Dhaka, June 24: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has said that there is no security threat in Bangladesh right now.

He said stringent security measures have been taken in the capital keeping the militant attacks at Holey Artisan Restaurant at Gulshan in Dhaka and Eid congregation at Sholakia in Kishoreganj.

“Four-tier security measures have been taken over the main Eid congregation at the National Eidgah in Dhaka,” the DMP chief said while visiting the National Eidgah.

“No militant threat during Eid has been detected. However, keeping the militant attack on Sholakia Eid congregation and Gulshan attack in mind, highest security measures have been taken,” he said.

Within a week of Gulshan attack, another militant attack was carried out near Sholakia Eidgah where hundreds of thousands had gathered for Eid congregation last year.

Police sources informed that 10,000 policemen would be deployed around Dhaka while the National Eidgah will be guarged by another 3,000 law enforcers.

Around 500 Eid congregations would be arranged in Dhaka, the DMP commissioner informed.

Asaduzzaman Mia sought cooperation during the security checks and asked the devotees not to carry any types of bags, sharp weapons and firecrackers.

He also informed that security would be tightened during Eid vacation to guard the holidaymakers’ houses in the capital.
