Dhaka, October 1: Bangladesh set a 280-run target against touring Afghanistan after a century from opener Tamim Iqbal in the third and final of a three-match One Day International (ODI) series in Dhaka on Saturday.
Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza won toss and chose to bat first at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar opened batting for Bangladesh. Tamim survived a catch in the first ball of third over bowled by Mohammad Nabi as Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai spilt a sitter at mid-on.
However, Soumya was caught by Afghan wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad after he slashed at a short and wide ball in the 6th over bowled by Mirwais Ashraf.
Only 23 runs came in the opening stand whre Soumy`s contribution was 11.
From there, opener Tamim Iqbal and middle order batsman Sabbir Rahman showed brilliant batting performance and added 140 runs in the second wicket partnership.
Sabbir was caught by Nawroz Mangal off Rahman Shah in the 31st over. He scored 65 runs off 79 balls hitting 6 boundaries and 3 over-boundaries.
Tamim, however, kept batting and smashed his 7th ODI century.
Bangladesh were 193/2 in 37 overs. Tamim was batting on 102 while Shakib Al Hasan on 11 respectively.
The result of the match will decide the series winner.
Bangladesh took the series lead with a seven run victory in the 1st match on Sunday (September 25) while ICC associate Afghanistan leveled the margin upsetting the Test playing hosts by two wickets on Wednesday (September 28), both held at Mirpur.
Bangladesh made two changes with Shafiul Islam playing instead of pacer Rubel Hossain while Mosharraf Hossain Rubel came in for Taijul Islam.
On the other hand, Afghanistan made one change with Samiullah Shenwari replacing Naveen-ul-Haq.
