Sylhet’s rail link with Dhaka snaps as Parabat’s engine derail after catches fire


Habiganj, October 7: Rail services have been suspended on the Dhaka-Sylhet route after a train caught fire in the district on Friday morning.

The incident happened at around 10:00am.

Sources said the engine of Sylhet-bound Parabat Express caught fire when the train arrived near Nowapara Railway Station area in Madhobpur upazila in the district. At this time, three bogies of the train get derailed.

Being informed, Fire Service units rushed to the spot.

Ruhul Amin, deputy engineer of Shayestaganj Railway station, confirmed the matter.

He said the firefighting units are now trying to douse the fire.

The carriages got derailed around 10am on Friday at Habiganj’s Noaparha Railway Station at Madhabpur Upazila following the fire, said Shayestaganj station’s Station Master Mofazzul Hossain.

Fire-fighting units from Madhabpur and Shayestaganj rushed to the spot and put out the fire soon, he said.

Passengers had managed to get off the train hastily after the fire break out and derailment. But no casualties had been reported.

Hossain said a relief train has already started from Akhaurha. He said it may take three to four hours to resume the train services.
