SUST teacher’s car killed 2, injured 4 after being run over them in Sylhet


Sylhet, Jan 23: Two people were killed and two others seriously injured when a car driven by a teacher of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet ran over them on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Ataur Rahman, 55, and his uncle Gius Uddin, 70, hailed from Purba Katia village under Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district.

All four victims hail from a same family.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jalalabad Police Station of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Akhter Hossain told reporters that a microbus of Dr Ariful Islam, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of SUST, rammed two pedestrians on the road in front of main gate of the university around 12:00 noon after its driver lost control over steering, leaving four people injured critically.

They were rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where on duty physicians declared them dead.

Injured Professor Ariful and Ataur Rahman’s daughter Nabila Rahman were admitted to the hospital, the OC added.
