Suspected ‘inter-district robbers’ gang leader killed in Narail ‘gunfight’

Narail, June 11: A suspected robber was killed on Saturday in a ‘gunfight’ between his associates and police forces in Dighalia Dokkhinpara village under Lohagara upazila in Narail.

The ‘shootout’ early on Saturday in Narail’s Lohagarha Upazila also left three security personnel injured, said police.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Sheikh, 35, son of Mokles Hossain, a resident of Chanchai village of the upazila.

According to police claim, Rakib supposed to lead an ‘inter-district robbers’ gang.’

Lohagarha police OC Biplob Kumar Saha said police conducted a raid on a tip-off about an impending robbery.

“The robbers opened fire, as police approached, provoking a retaliation,” Saha said, adding, “Rakib Sheikh was caught in the cross-fire.”

Police said they have seized a firearm, ammunition and sharp weapons from the spot.

Later, the bullet hit was rushed to Lohagora Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
