Dhaka, March 24: One person killed in suicide blast at a police check post near Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport in the city on Friday evening.
The incident happened at the check post set near the police box adjacent to the Haji Camp at Ashkona.
Police said the attacker was killed in ‘suicide explosion’ at about 7:30pm. The man was carrying a bomb. The body of the attacker was seen lying on the road.
Receiving information, senior police officials went to the spot.
Airport Police Station’s OC Noor-e-Azam Mia confirmed reporters about the killing of the man in the suicide blast.
However, none of the policemen or any other was killed or injured in the attack.
Armed Police Battalion (APbn) assistant police super Tanjina Akhter said security at the airport and adjoing areas was strengthened following the attack. Additional members of the APbn were deployed at the airport area.
Dhaka Airport’s director Iqbal Karim said security at the airport was tightened following the attack on RAB barrack at Ashkona last week. The security has been strengthened further. Archways would be set up at the entrances of the airport.
