Dhaka, August 27: The Counter Terrorism Unit of police on Saturday published the photographs of three persons killed in a raid at a den of militants in Narayanganj city.
The raid, dubbed ‘Operation Hit Strong 27,” left three people including Gulshan cafe attack mastermind Canadian-Bangladeshi Tamim Chowdhury dead. Police also announced Tk 20 lakh reward for information about fugitive Tamim.
Two others killed during the anti-militant operation were identified as Manik and Iqbal. However, police said that the fingerprints of the slain militants were collected to get confirmed about their identities.
Police conducted the operation at the militants’ den at Nuruddin Mia’s three-storeyed house at Paikpara in Narayanganj city at about 9:30am. SWAT members also joined with them. They were assisted by RAB-11 and Narayanganj district police personnel.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) additional deputy commissioner Sanwar Hossain said police surrounded the house at about 6:30am. Afterward, the house-owner was told that an operation would be launched into the house. The militants were also given half an hour to surrender, but they did not avail that opportunity.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Moniruzzaman said the militants burnt away their laptops and some documents before the raid.
He said at first the militants were asked to surrender through hand mikes. But the operation was launched as the militants declined to surrender.
During the operation, three militants were killed.
