Sholakia attack suspect among 2 killed in Nandail ‘gunfight’ with RAB

Dhaka, August 5: Two persons including a Sholakia attack suspected militants were killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion members in Nandail of Mymensingh district on Thursday night.

Three RAB members were also injured in the gunfight while two motorcycles, arms and bullets were recovered from the spot.

They were accused in a case filed in connection with the terrorist attack on police near Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The deceased was identified as Shafiul Islam alias Saiful Islam, 22, son of Abdul Hye of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur district. He had been undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The gunfight took place at around 11.15am at Dangi village (near Dhaka-Mymensingh highway) under Nandail in Mymensingh, said police.

The RAB said Shafiul was being taken to Kishoreganj from Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The cohorts of Shafiul hurled bombs and opened fire on a patrol team of RAB-14 in Nandail to take away two militants, forcing the elite force to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

Shafiul and another militant were killed in the gun battle on the spot.

Earlier on July 7, on the Eid day, three people, including two policemen, were killed and 12 others injured in a bomb attack coupled with an exchange of gunfire after terrorists attacked at a temporary police check post near Sholakia Eidgah in Sadar upazila of Kishoreganj.

Besides, Abir Rahman, a student of North South University and an alleged militant, was killed in the gunfight with police while Saiful arrested from the spot.
