Shakib in Mushfiq out as Test captain


Dhaka, December 10:Shakib Al Hasan has replaced Mushfiqur Rahim as Test captain.

From now the top all-rounder will lead Bangladesh as Test Captain while Mohammad Mahmudullah Riyad will play as his deputy.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon made the disclosure after board meeting on Sunday.

Papon said, “Shakib Al Hasan will play as our Test Captain from next series. And Mahmudullah Riyad will act as vice-captain.”

In reply to a question, the BCB president said, “I can’t say that there were some specific reasons behind the decision. Basically, we think that there should be a change here. We want best batting service from Mushfiqur. We want to give him some time to relax and moreover he should concentrate on his batting.”

Shakib Al Hasan has experience as Bangladesh cricket Test captain. He led the team in nine Tests, with one win and eight losses.

Mushfiqur Rahim captained Bangladesh in 34 Tests, starting against West Indies in Chittagong. He led Bangladesh to seven Test wins and nine draws while losing 18 Tests.
