Momtaz Ahmed Mehedi, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the case with the court of Rashed Talukder of Dhaka CMM Court on Monday morning.
The court will hear the case at 11:00am.
On 21 December, the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia said at a discussion in the city that there was a controversy over the actual number of martyrs during the country’s Liberation War.
“There`s a lot of debate over the actual number of martyrs. It is said that a certain million [3 million] embraced martyrdom during the war. How many martyrs were there in reality?” said Khaleda.
Her comments sparked protest among different quarters and on social media.
Momtaz Ahmed Mehedi sought the permission from the home ministry for bringing the charge against her for remarks on the number of Liberation War martyrs.
The home ministry gave the permission on January 21. As per the rule, the government`s permission is a must to lodge a sedition case.
Two days after her comments, Momtaz, also a former secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), sent a legal notice to Khaleda, asking her to apologise to the nation for her remarks.
