Dhaka, April 6: Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been finally able to attend his office on Thursday afternoon after legal battle.
The SCC mayor arrived at his office around 3:00pm from his Kumarpara residence with party some party leaders and activists.
The SCC councilors and staffs greeted him at the Nagar Bhaban.
Earlier, the Chamber court of the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a High Court order that halted the government order suspending Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
Chamber Judge Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order, said Ariful’s lawyer Abdul Haque Kwafi.
The Chamber Judge dropped from its hearing list a petition filed by the government on Wednesday seeking stay on the High Court order that halted his suspension order.
Barrister Abdul Halim Kafi moved for Ariful Huq Chowdhury while Additional Attorney General Momtaz Uddin Fakir stood for the state.
Earlier, on April 2, Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury was suspended following his indictment in a case on 22 March.
Later, on April 5, the High Court order that stayed the suspension of Ariful will remain in force until further order from the Supreme Court.
