Dhaka, June 27: A Supreme Court (SC) lawyer has sent a legal notice to the government asking to conduct a judicial inquiry into the death Golam Faizullah Fahim, who was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with law enforcers in Madaripur on June 18.

Fahim, 18, was accused of hacking a Hindu college teacher Ripan Chakraborty, a lecturer of Govt Nazimuddin University College.

He was in police custody and on remand when he turned up dead in a ‘gunfight’.

Supreme Court Lawyer FM Zulfiqure Ali served the notice on Monday to the home secretary, inspector general of police, superintendent of police and OC of Madaripur Sadar Police Station.

In the notice, the lawyer asked the respondents to explain in 15 days whether Fahim was killed in a “shootout” or whether he was killed to hide the real culprit.

Apart from this, the apex court’s lawyer Zulfiqure asked them to explain as to why departmental action will not be taken against the police personnel who were involved with Fahim’s death.

The lawyer said there were dramatic and mysterious elements in the reported incident of Fahim’s death. The incident took place when the accused was in police custody and it is against the relevant law and the guideline of the SC, Zulfiqure said.

If the respondents do not reply to this legal notice, he will file a writ petition with the High Court seeking necessary directives, he added.
