Dhaka, Feb 22: The High Court (HC) on Monday granted bail to a Supreme Court (SC) lawyer Barrister Shakila Farzana in two separate cases filed against her under the Anti-Terrorism Act on charge of financing ‘Hamza Brigade,’ a militant organisation.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq, passed an order granting the bail after hearing.
Additional Attorney General Md Mamtazuddin Fakir appeared on behalf of the state, while senior lawyers Zainul Abedin and ZI Khan Panna took part in the hearing on bail petition on behalf of accused Shakila Farzana.
Chittagong’s BNP leader and former whip Syed Wahidul Alam’s daughter Barrister Shakila Farzana, advocate Hasanuzzaman Liton and Advocate Mahfuz Chowdhury Bapon were arrested from Dhanmondi in Dhaka on August 18 last year for allegedly providing Tk 1.8 crore to militant outfit ‘Hamza Brigade.’
Later, they were shown arrested in two cases filed with Banshkhali and Hathazari Police Stations in Chittagong under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Lawyers Liton and Bapon were released on bail in the cases in December last year. As Barrister Shakila was not given by lower court, she filed a bail petition wit the High Court on January 12 last.
