Dhaka, October 08: The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday gave seven months time to Bangladesh Garments Manufacturing Export Association (BGMEA) to relocate its head office from Hatirjheel area in Dhaka. The apex court also said they would not be given any more time for relocating the BGMEA building after six months.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah passed the order after hearing a petition filed by BGMEA seeking one year time for relocating its building.
In the order, the court said it gave seven months’ time to the BGMEA from September 12, which means that six months and four days are left for the relocation from today.
On August 23, the garment makers’ platform appealed to the court for the extension of the deadline, said Siddiqur Rahman, president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
Wahhab Miah is discharging the duties of the chief justice in absence of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha presently.
