Saudi King Salman orders $15m to help Rohingya refugees

Dhaka, September 20: Saudi King Salman today ordered allocation of US$15 million for Rohingyas, the first such Saudi aid announcement as tens of thousands of ethnic minority Muslims began to flee their home in Myanmar last month, official Saudi Press Agency said.It said “the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud” ordered allocation of US$ 15 Million for the Rohingya refugees fleeing from Myanmar “as a result of genocide and torture”.

The Saudi Gazette, meanwhile, in its online version said adviser at the Royal Court and general supervisor of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Work Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah made the announcement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

“A specialized team from the center will be heading to Bangladesh within the coming few hours to make an assessment of the condition of Rohingya refugees there,” the Saudi newspaper quoted Rabeeah as saying.

He said the team would find out essential requirements to extend assistance in terms of relief, humanitarian help and shelter.
