RMG factory catches fire in Ashulia, 15 injured


Savar, July 8: Firefighters have brought the fire under control when a garment factory at Narasinghapur in Ashulia caught fire on Saturday night.

At least 15 people were injured so far.

The fire broke out at the building of ‘Medlar Limited’ around 9:15 pm, said duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Mahmudul Hoque.

On information, 11 units of firefighters rushed to the spot and were trying to douse the flame till filing of the report at about 11:35 pm, Hoque added.

However, it was not clear what actually caused the fire.

Meanwhile, workers of other factories adjacent to the burning factory announced for leave to avoid any further incident.

The authorities concerned has suspended the movement of all vehicles on the Ashulia-Baipail highway.

Meanwhile, the local administration blocked Abdullahpur-Baipal road around 10:30 pm as the intensity of the fire was increasing, said officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station Abdul Awal.

A long tailback has already been created on the road, said the OC, adding an adequate number of law enforcers have been deployed in the area to fend off any trouble.
