Risha murder: suspected killer Obaidul’s sister, brother-in-law held in Dinajpur


Dinajpur, August 30: Police on Tuesday arrested Wills Little Flower School’s student Suraiya Akter Risha’s suspected killer Obaidul’s sister Khadija Begum, 36 and brother-in-law Khademul Islam, 46 from Dinajpur.

Police also arrested Khademul Islam’s mother Khodeja Begum, 75, but released her later.

Though police arrested sister and brother-in-law, they could not arrest Obaidul.

Local villagers said they saw Obaidul at their local areas and Later Bazar till Monday afternoon.

At about 7:00pm on Monday (August 29, 2016), city’s Ramna Police Station sub-inspector Mosharraf Hossain, in cooperation with Birganj Police Station force conducted a raid into Obaidul’s house at village Miratongi under Mohonpur union of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur district.

However, police found that all the members of Obaidul’s family fled away from the house locking the doors.

Obaidul’s sister Khadija Begum said Obaidul went their house at about 7:00am on Thursday. He had had breakfast with them. After taking rest, he took bath and then left the house. Since then he did not make any contact with his sister. “He had committed such an incident that we were told nothing about it,” she said.

Neighbour Jahangir Alam said he saw Obaidul on Thursday morning, but did not talk to him much. “I also saw him on Sunday (August 28) afternoon. Till then I was unaware that he had committed a murder.”

Mohonpur UP member Bacchu Mia said Obaidul’s father Abdus Samad was a wholesaler of different types of crop. His first wife died leaving a son and three daughters. Later, he married to Chandani Begum. Chandani Begum also gave birth to a son and four daughters. When Obaidul was a Class II student at Chakdafar Primary School, his mother Chandani Begum died. When he was studying at Class V, his father left him at Thakurgaon Magic Cut Tailors.

The tailor shop owner Gouranga gave Obaidul a job knowing about his family’s poor condition. Later, his father Abdus Samad married one divorced Aklima Begum. Abdus Samad died about five years ago.

Obaidul used to come here on every Eid. He was last seen at Laterbazar on Monday. ‘Till then the matter was not known to us. We got surprised knowing about the matter.”

It may be mentioned that Kakrail’s Wills Little Flower School’s student Suraiya Akter Risha died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital being stabbed by stalker Obaidul on Wednesday. Risha’s mother filed a case with Ramna Police Station on the same day accusing Obaidul as the killer of her daughter.
