Dhaka, June 30: Habiganj Razakar Muhibur Rahman Boromia and his cousin Abudur Razzak on Thursday filed appeals seeking acquittals from death penalty and imprisonment until death respectively.
Their counsel Masud Rana filed the appeals to the concern division of the Appellate Division.
Earlier on June 1, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Habigani’s Mohibur Rahman to death and ordered his younger brother Mujibur Rahman and cousin Abdur Razzak to imprisonment until death for their crimes committed during the liberation war in 1971.
The partners in crime from Baniachang Upazila had taken a stand against Bangladesh’s struggle for independence and joined the Razakar militia raised by the Pakistan Army to crush it.
The trial has brought to the four crimes against humanity that included mass murder, rapes, looting and arson in several villages of the northeastern district during the liberation war in 1971.
