Rashidun Nabi on 3-day remand in blogger Nazim Uddin murder case


Dhaka, October 17: A Dhaka court on Monday granted Rashidun Nabi Bhuiyan on a three-day remand in Jagannath University student Nazim Uddin Samad murder case.

Earlier, police produced Rashidun Nabi Bhuiyan before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Maruf Hossain and sought for 10-day remand.

Investigation officer of the case and Counter-Terrorism Unit-2’s inspector Tajul Islam pleaded to the court to place the accused on a 10-day remand.

On Sunday night, Rashidun Nabi Bhuiyan was arrested from Saidabad bus stand area by the members of CTTC and DB.

Earlier, one Mehedi Hasan Omi alias Rafi was taken to remand showing arrest in the case. He was arrested from Sylhet on April 19 last. He was first sent to jail showing arrested in an anti-terrorism case filed with the city’s Badda Police Station.

It may be mentioned that blogger Nazim Uddin Samad was murdered at Ekrampur crossing under the city’s Sutrapur Police Station at about 8:15pm on April 5 last. He was a postgraduate student of the evening course of the Department of Law of Jagannath University.

Nazim Uddin Samad hailed from Biani Bazar and was an active member of Gonojagoron Mancha in Sylhet.

He was an active member of Sylhet unit of Ganajagoron Mancha, and also the Information and Research Secretary of Sylhet district unit of Bangabandhu Jatiyo Jubo Parishad.

Addressing a press conference at the DMP Media Centre in the capital on Monday, DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit head Monirul Islam said militant organisation Ansar Al-Islam had planned to kill Nazimuddin Samad about three months ago. In order to materialise their plan, Ansar Al-Islam members hired a flat behind Jagannath University at Sadarghat area. They also followed Nazimuddin Samad several days from the university.

Monirul Islam said since Nazimuddin Samad used to live at a hostel, militants thought it would not be possible to kill him going there. Because of it they planned to kill him on his way to the hostel. Becuase of it the militants followed Nazimuddin Samad a couple of days. Afterward, Rashidun Nabi Bhuiyan Russel had been waiting for the directive from the higher authorities of Ansar Al Islam to kill Nazimuddin Samad.

Accordingly, five militants led by Rashidun Nabi killed Nazimuddin Samad by hacking him and firing at him from point-blank range. At that time, chapatis were in the hands of all of them.

Nazim Uddin Samad used to live at a mess near Luxmibazar. He made comments on the deterioration of the law and order in the country on his Facebook page. Nazimuddin also gave status on the Facebook seeking stern actions against the government’s injustices.
