Quota protesters give Aug 31 deadline to free students

Dhaka, August 12: Quota reformists on Sunday gave the government August 31 deadline to meet their five-point demand including release of detainees, trial of attackers and publishing gazette notification on abolishing quota system in government jobs as per the prime minister’s announcement. They also threatened to go for a tougher movement from September 1 if their demands are not met by August 31.

Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad held a student meeting in front of National Museum at Shahbagh and announced the deadline.

Joint convener of the movement Bin Yamin Molla said tougher movement will be formed if government fails to publish gazette notification on quota reform, release the detained protesters unconditionally and bring the attackers to justice by August 31.

On the other hand, the quota rally was supposed to be held in front of Raju Sculpture Memorial but members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) took position there against it.
