Punishment for journos’ attackers demanded

Dhaka, August 07: Journalists from different media organizations has demanded immediate arrest for those who involved with the attacks on journalists during the ongoing student movement seeking safe roads.The journalists came up with the demand from a human chain at SARRC Fountain in Karwan Bazar area of the capital on Tuesday morning.

They also warned to launch tougher programmes if the government fails to arrest the attackers within the next 72 hours.

At least twenty-one journalists were injured in attacks by unruly youths in the capital’s Jigatala and Science Laboratory areas on Saturday and Sunday while taking snaps of an attack on protesting students.

On July 29, two students- Abdul Karim, 16, and Diya, 15, of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were killed when a speedy bus rammed them on Airport Road of the capital city.

The incident triggered mass protest among students and they have been continuing the demonstration in demand of safe roads and justice.
